The mission of the Department of Primary and Secondary Education is to equip children of the State with specified knowledge, skills and values to enable them to become good human beings and productive, socially responsible citizens and to achieve excellence in whatever they do. The Department of State Educational Research and Training, popularly known as DSERT, is the academic wing of the Department of Public Instruction under Department of Primary and Secondary Education. It aims at providing academic leadership in school education as well as improving the quality of education provided in elementary and secondary schools in the state. DSERT is the academic authority in the State for all schools adopting the state curriculum for the purposes of section 29 of the RTE Act.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) happens to be the sine qua non of the present day society to catch up with the emerging trends and holds a lot of promise for posterity.
The State of Karnataka has gained worldwide recognition for being in the vanguard of the revolution in Information and Communication Technology. It is all the more necessary for the State to produce bright scholars who are skilled in computers to meet the requirements of the present day society. Realizing this need Government of Karnataka in 2000 took a decision to introduce Information Technology in schools.
